Unconditional Olympic Love

By Lee Ann | August 12, 2008

When it comes to rooting for Olympians - they truly get my unconditional love.  I find myself rooting for people I’ve never seen before just because they’re from the country I live in.

How’s that for a strong belief?  I don’t care if the other athletes are nicer people, better athletes, have cooler uniforms or are hotter eye candy - they’re not from my country so they’re off my radar.

Why do I do this?

Here’s my take.  Sense of community.  I want to root for people that are like me, not that I have much in common with an Olympic athlete besides both being human :).   And many of those athletes are going to endorse products which we will then buy because they represented OUR Country and won medals proving that they were better.  This greatly improves the know, like and trust factor that colors our buying decisions with green - for spending lots and lots of money because someone we really don’t know says it’s a good thing to have.

But, Lee Ann, what the bleep does this have to do with me?  I’ll tell ya.  Become someone that your customers know, like and trust.  Become the expert in your field, the go-to person.  Be a winner.  Stand out.

Imagine that your customers are judges in your business and they are going to score your performance.  Are you going to get 10’s for customer service, for delivery for every aspect of your business transaction?  If not - get busy and start going for the Gold.
