Do or do not
By Lee Ann | January 12, 2009
I was invited to attend a direct sales conference yesterday where Michael Port presented key elements of his Book Yourself Solid System. Michael is one of those people that “does it”. He not only teaches the system - he uses it to create massive success in his business. And, when he’s teaching it, you can feel the energy, you can feel the passion and you can see and hear it in his voice. He is fully self-expressed and you can tell he really wants the audience to “get’ what he’s teaching. He’s not just there to talk and collect a check and get his butt back home.
During his presentation he said something I needed to hear, and that was this. That even he, as successful as he is, isn’t “on his game” 100% of the time. There are times when he just wants to chill or has doubts, that’s normal, he reminded us. After all, we are human and humans can’t maintain that high level of thought, vibration, whatever you want to call it every second, every moment. But,the difference between those that are successful and those that are trying to be successful is this. To be successful you have to do what you need to do to move your business forward more often than you let yourself slip into unproductive patterns.
Here’s where that partial quote in the title of the post comes in. It’s from Star Wars, wisdom from Yoda who says - “Do or do not - there is no try.”
And, Michael reminded me yesterday that if I just “do” more often than I “do not” - I will be successful. That doesn’t mean sitting around thinking about the doing, or wishing about the doing or making plans to do something. No.
It means that the rubber hits the road and I take action and make the phone call, send the email, write the article, write the book, hold the teleseminar. It’s impossible to try to do those things - I’m either in action doing them or I’m not - it’s that simple.
Thank you for the reminder Michael, and thank you for sharing your wisdom. If you would like to learn what Michael is up to, I invite you to check out what Michael is doing here http://profile.to/michaelport.
This was one thing I wanted to do today and now it’s done.
Here’s a hint. If you are setting up tasks to do that will move you forward either in your business, or a relationship or the goal of losing weight or whatever.
And, if you find a pattern that you are more “try” than do - then that’s an indication that something is out of alignment with you and it might be wise to get a dose of coaching to help you move past whatever’s blocking you.
Because a goal, dream or desire is a terrible thing to waste.

Hi Lee Ann -
Your words are so true! Many of us “try” so many times we get frustrated by thoughts of failing - before even starting.
At the beginning of each new project, I bring out my mug with this quote:
“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”
It gives me a different mindset right at from the start. Simply, I decide I’m not going to fail, and get to the “doing” stage so much quicker.
I’ve found that this change in thinking has helped me accomplish much more in my business.

Hey Marjorie,
Good to hear from you. Love the mug idea - What would you do if you could not fail?
Very timely that you should even bring that up because a friend of mine asked herself that very
question and it birthed what’s exploding into the Global Hug Tour. She’s going to fly around the world,
stop in 50 cities, hug 100K people and give away 1 million dollars to charity.
Now, that’s thinking big!!
Anyway, it’s always nice to hear from you. Thanks for chiming in.
