Magic in Possibility

I lived in Jerusalem for 6 weeks many years ago. A girlfriend was attending college and I had the opportunity to stay rent-free in the apartment she was given. Since my friend was in class all of the morning, I had time on my hands to roam the fascinating city. One of my daily walks was to go to the local post office and get the mail for my friends and I. When you’re a long way from home and friends and family, (hint-this was before email) mail is a big deal. I walked through a small residential neighborhood to get to the post office and right across the street from the post office was a tiny little hill, it was more of an incline, anyway, it was just a hill made up of dirt and rocks no grass. I walked up and down this little pebbly incline every day on my way to get the mail. One day, it rained in the morning, and this was unusual. It hadn’t rained the entire time I was there. I left for the post office right after the brief shower was over. When I got to the little hill I thought I had lost my way – I had to look to make sure the post office was there across the street. For, right there in front of me was a rainbow carpet of all different colors of tiny wild flowers that had sprung out of the dirt after the short rain. I realized that they were there all along – there was just one thing missing – water. I stood and just took in their beauty. The next day – they were gone again.

I believe that each of us has that carpet of wild flowers inside of us – that inner beauty that we possess. Another word for it would be the purpose that we were put on this earth to do. Because when we are operating from our sense of purpose – we are aligned with our true selves, are in complete joy and we are creatures of magic and beauty.

To get a hint at what your purpose is – think of three times in your life when you were in such joy that you had no sense of time – were you painting, singing, writing computer code? Who knows? Write down three of those times (not having sex – it’s good – but it doesn’t count for this exercise) and look for the common thread that connects all three? Were you teaching another? Creating something? Don’t worry – we all have a purpose – we were born with it…. You’ll find it. If you have questions – just ask me in the comment section and I’ll help you though it.

What will be different about today?

Do you want to move closer to your dream life today? Then what are you going to do differently today?

If the answer is yes then do this – change your attitude. Today make it a point to not react negatively to anything – anything that happens through your day. And, I mean anything and everything.

Example: if you’re stuck in traffic on your wayto work and you usually get stressed – change that today. Just be calm and if you can’t be calm – look at yourself being tense and observe what’s going on. Try to just look at your tension as an impartial observer and ask yourself – “Why am I choosing to have this experience?” In other words – why does being in traffic make you tense. Sit with that – you’ll have time….

Throughout the day when you notice your negative reaction to any situation, if your spouse says something that normally would tick you off – Ask yourself this question – Why am I choosing to have this experience? If you spill coffee on your new tie, stub your toe, your car won’t start, WHATEVER…

Do this for one day and take note of the results..

When strange things happen to good people

Manifestation – getting what you want – it happens in ways that just can’t be planned. It’s so cool to let the Universe do its thing. Here’s a short little story of a recent book I manifested.

But first, the back story.

A couple of weeks ago I toured Louisa May Alcotts house – which was a very interesting experience. Her desk is in the exact place as it was when she lived there, as you can see by a photograph in her bedroom. It’s a very strange feeling to stand right where she stood in the photograph. Anyway, on the tour a book was mentioned, Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan – it was a book that went “viral” back in the late 1800’s and it had to do with some of spiritual principles that I’ve been studying. I made a note that I wanted to get a copy of the book, but as things happen I forgot about it.

That week, I’m reading the book, The Power of Your Supermind by Vernon Howard and there on page 81 what book is mentioned – Yes, Pilgrims Progress. Now, when something comes into my life a couple of times in a short period of time – I take notice. I decide to get a copy of the book for sure. But, I take no action, it’s not high on the “to do” list. However, the Universe had other ideas…

A week later I’m out for a Sunday visit to Ipswich with my son and hubby. We ate at Woodmans – fried clams and lobster roll were so good I didn’t want the meal to end. If you like lobster and clams – then Woodmans is a “must visit”. Anyway, after stuffing our faces I wanted to poke around antique shops. There are quite a few in Ipswich so I just randomly picked one. There were two levels and upstairs were bookcase after bookcase packed with old books. Something told me to check out the first bookcase and the fifth book that I spied was none other than – Yes, you guessed it. Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan, a small with a green binding published in 1879. The pages are worn, browned and spotted with age, but overall it’s in good shape.

If you could have seen the hundreds of books that were spilling from the bookcases to the floor in the second floor of the antique shop you would be as astonished as I was when I found this little book so easily.

Lesson learned – be careful what you wish for – because it’s on the way the moment you desire it….

Thoughts do become things – think the good ones!!

5 ways to stop struggle

If you’ve ever felt like life was hard – you’re not seeing the results you want with your business, your weight, your relationships – your fill-in-the-blank.   It doesn’t have to be so hard – in fact – it can and is supposed to be easy.

So, here are 5 tips to ease the struggle, to get you in the flow and put you on the path to living the life the way it was meant to be lived.

1. Be grateful.  This is cool.  No matter what your issue or situation – you have something to be grateful for. I practice this every day now.  Some days I’m grateful that I have hot and cold running water, that I have all the food I could possibly eat, that I have love.  But, here’s the kicker – I also feel grateful – I don’t just think the words.  The feeling is what’s important.  I have to attach those positive feelings to the grateful thoughts.

2. Clear out the clutter.   And, I don’t mean clean out your garage, although that is a good project.  I mean clear out the negative self-talk in your head.  I am very self-aware now when I have negative thoughts.  And, the second I think one- I flip it to a positive thought.  Try it.

3. Stop blaming others.  I used to not even recognize when I was doing this.  I think this one got cemented when I was a kid.  It became natural to blame my brother and then it just became a bad habit.  But, here’s what I know when you blame others – you take away all your power.  If others are to blame for your current situation – then that renders you powerless.  If you don’t take responsibility for exactly what you have created so far in your life – then you can’ t make it better.  So, don’t blame the economy, your boss or the red M & M’s (you don’t have to eat them!).  Instead of blaming take responsibility – it’s got amazing power.

4. Be happy where you are in your pursuit of happiness.  Don’t fall into the trap of – I’ll be happy when I get there – whether there is married, or when you get the bigger house or the better job.  Celebrate where you are – right now.  Because, psst, lean closer because I’m going to whisper and tell you a secret – there is no “there”.  Wherever you are and whatever you are doing there will always be something bigger and better waiting for you.

5. Forgive.  Forgive?  What’s that doing in this list.  What does forgiveness have to do with struggle?  I can tell you from personal experience that I have had to forgive people who I thought caused me harm because that suppressed anger was holding me back.  That anger and resentment was causing me to think that I wasn’t worthy of success – what a load of crap.  If there are any people or situations that have hurt you – let them go.  Forgive whoever and whatever it was.  Write a letter forgiving and then burn it, rip it up – flush it.  That event doesn’t even exist anymore – it’s in the past and you live in the now.

If you’re struggling

In every breeze, gliding down every rainbow in the warming rays of the sun and the gentle patter of a light summer rain – life’s beauty glows all around us. There is magic in possibility as the Universe is just waiting for you to be ready to receive its blessings. Your soul – your inner beauty and wisdom shines as a beacon for you – a guiding light to serve you and guide you on your journey through Life.

Trust in the Power of the Universe and surrender your false, limiting beliefs to its knowledge. It knows the way and will keep your path clear and full of opportunities around every corner. Be grateful for its wisdom and the things it has given you so far.

The world needs your soul to keep it whole.

Have Faith.

I’ll give you a list of things you can do to stop struggling with my next post.

Morning Inspiration

You are a divine creation and your physical body is the manifestation of that. It is your Temple. You wouldn’t go into your house of worship and desecrate it. So you shouldn’t do that to yourself by sabotaging your dreams and desires. it’s time to stop doing that to your self as in your Self. You are connected to your source 24/7, whether you know it or not.

You are worthy of anything you put your mind to, anything. There is nothing that you can think or desire which you cannot have. It is your birthright, it is yours for the receiving. And, that is important to note that it is not there for the taking. You need to be open to receiving what is yours, not taking it from somewhere. To allow it to come to you, to be aware of its presence. Because, here’s the cool thing – whatever you want – I mean whatever – there are already things in your own sight, in your own life right now that will help you get there – you’re just not aware of them yet.

It is important that you be grateful for all that you have. It’s important you honor your Self – and that means all the parts of your Self. Your inner critic has as much importance as the dreamer that wants to soar. Acknowledge your critic for wanting to keep you safe and your dreamer for wanting to take you to amazing places. The only failure is in not trying, not making any steps towards your dreams.

Be happy – have fun. Dance as if no one were watching and sing as if no one is listening.

Your voice is beautiful. You are deserving. You are worthy of all that you can dream.

Let others live their dreams – be concerned only with yours. It will all work out.

There is abundance in everything. There is more than enough for all.

Be kind to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up – ever.

Watch for opportunities when they present themselves. They may be disguised as something other than what you expected. Keep your receiving door open so that you may welcome these opportunities into your life.

You live in the present – there is no past – there is no future. The past is gone and the future hasn’t happened yet. Make your now the best it can be – that will affect your future.

There is no fear – if you know that you can’t fail. And, you know what – you can’t fail. Even things that we may call failures are just learning opportunities.

RESPECT yourself.

Be truly you. Don’t try to be like others. You have gifts and talents and a way of being that no one on the planet has. You are unique. Isn’t that cool? Enjoy it.

So, don’t be jealous of what others have – because they don’t have what you have – and that’s a beautiful thing.

Surround yourself with beauty. Clear away clutter. Clutter causes confusion and worry.

Listen to your inner wisdom – your soul. It expresses itself when you feel true joy. If you lose yourself and all track of time in something – take notice – that is when you are connected to your highest source. That is the connection to your soul – doesn’t that give you goosebumps.

Your soul desires many things before you leave your body – get quiet, listen to what is coming up for you.

Give something away every day – unexpectedly. Tip someone who normally doesn’t receive tips – the bagger at the grocery store, the person at the dry cleaners, a stranger walking in the mall. Giving is the highest form of receiving there is. And, receive with gratitude. No excuses. When someone compliments you – accept it with a thank you. For example, someone tells you that they love your outfit and you say, thank you, but it’s just something you threw together. NO. Next time – it’s just – thank you. It will feel different – it has to.

Inspire – from the latin – to breathe. Breath is literally the inspiration for life.

Through your breath you can connect to your Source and ground yourself.

You are amazing – you are already magnificent. Feel your magnificence – there is awe and magic all around. Start noticing it. From the way nature works – this is a good place to look for awe or a god place to look for awe.

Truly love yourself. That high positive vibration will attract more love and goodness into your life. Love will flow back to you. You’ll be a light that will shine so brightly that you’ll light the way for others.

Go, and create a magnificent day – you deserve it.

OMG – it’s my fault

After I posted yesterday, I sat and thought about what was going on.  Then a voice popped into my head – it came from a seminar I just attended – “Whatever experience you are having – you created it – you need to take 100% responsibility and just ask yourself why you are choosing to have that experience.”

So many times things go badly and we’re inclined to say &*^$ happens.  I’ve learned that’s a dangerous place to be because it strips you of all your power.  If you believe that stuff just happens to you, then you are operating from a victim mentality.  Then, you get to blame other people – again – not a good place to be.

And, I knew all the above – and yet I still chose to react badly to the experience of the day.  I know now why I did that.  It was to raise my awareness.  When I realized and admitted that whatever was happening I had the CHOICE to react with either a positive or negative attitude – it all changed.  I simply realized that I could choose to feel positive and WHAM-O – I felt better.  The anger dissipated – it was just neutralized.

I went from being frustrated and pissed off to being grateful for other things in my life that were going right.

So, when the (*^& is hitting the fan – ask yourself – why am I choosing to have this experience?  Then focus on some of the things that are going right.  Some days, it’s tough, I know – so I focus on the fact that I have a roof over my head, hot and cold running water, a loving family – hey, when you start looking for good stuff, sometimes you gotta dig.  But, you’re digging in the right place to fill your heart and your mind with positive energy.  And, that feels so much better, try it – you’ll see.

I knew all

When times get tough

This is when it counts – when things seem to come crashing down around you.  Keeping a positive mental attitude is probably the most important when you encounter challenges in order to tell the Universe that you’re serious about getting ahead.

I can’t give details as to what is going badly, but I really screwed up royally today in keeping positive.  I was everything but.  I was angry, really angry.

Now, tonight, I realize that I have to let go of the anger and replace it with feelings of gratitude for what is going right.  I also realize that I have to forgive the people that are causing me grief.  This feels very difficult – so I know it’s the right thing to do.

Thanks for listening.

Houston – we have a problem

I just watched Apollo 13 yesterday for the first time.  What struck me was not only the human drama of the three astronauts desperately trying to get back to earth, but the story of how a series of seemingly impossible events happened one after the other.

They seem to have begun in the fact that Jim Lovell and his crew were picked for the mission because of another astronaut’s ear infection.  Then, health issues surfaced again when two days before launch, the pilot was exposed to the measles and replaced with another astronaut.  It was up to Lovell to make the decision to either not go on that mission at that point or accept the new pilot.  Lovell knew that the new pilot wasn’t as well-trained as he should be  but he made the decision to accept him.

Those events seem pretty random – but as the drama unfolds – they were critically important.

Once in space – everything is going fine until the first seemingly impossible event – failure of the two  oxygen tanks that supplied oxygen to the spacecraft and to the components.  The engineers at NASA were dumbfounded – this had never happened before.  They hadn’t planned for it – because they didn’t even conceive that it could happen.

The moon landing was scrubbed and the focus became how to get the astronauts back home alive.  The crew had to rely on the lunar landing module for their journey back – a ship that wasn’t designed for space travel – it was designed for the moon landing – and they had to power it up in fifteen minutes, not the three hours that the procedure manual called for.

Considering where the astronauts were in space, the fuel they had left, the electrical supply they had left – the engineers at NASA determined that it was impossible to get them back to earth.  This was not acceptable to Mission Control Director Gene Kranz.  He and the team worked out a scenario that would use the moon’s gravitational pull to conserve power and got numbers on paper that would get the astronauts back to earth.    But, this had never been done before and was pure mathematical speculation – but it was all they had.  Kranz served as the driving force to the team in Mission Control with his words that failure was not an option.  Everyone who could possibly provide answers was called in to help get the astronauts back to earth.

Another crisis – the CO2 levels were rising in the cabin and it seemed as if the astronauts were going to be killed by CO2 poisoning.  Kranz called on his team to make use of what the astronauts had in the ship to solve this and using random pieces of equipment and duct tape – the engineers came up with a solution that worked.  The seemingly impossible had been done again.

However, the astronauts still had to hit the earths atmosphere at a precise angle without the aid of the computer system for navigational guidance!!  And the heat shields, which may have been damaged in the oxygen tank explosion had to hold together to keep the astronauts from being burned to death from the intense heat of re-entry to earth’s atmosphere.

Of course, as the story goes, they made it back safely – really against the odds.

So, why bring this up now?  Because it reinforces my belief that anything is possible if the desire is strong enough.  With failure not being an option – the engineers at Mission Control were forced to make the seemingly impossible possible over and over and they had to do it at a pace much faster than they were used to.

So, what’s seemingly impossible to you?  What dream do you have that seems so out of reach that you don’t even try to go for it?  Take a tip from the engineers at Mission Control – make the need that you attain this goal so strong – that nothing will stop you from achieving it.  That desire, that emotion is the first step in  having your dreams come true.

Trust in the process – it got three astronauts home from the moon – it can work for you.

Nine lives – all used up

getting comfy

I just wanted to honor my wonderful little cat of eighteen years who passed away last night. This is Annie. I adopted her from a shelter when she was still a kitten. She was a lap kitty and was my adoring and adored companion.

She is already greatly missed.
